Bob Simpson, Chair, has been Watermaster for the Little Wood Irrigation District for 12 years. Each year he compiles water, and snow reports valued throughout the state. A retired Air Force flight engineer, who has traveled the world. He is now living in Carey. He and his wife, Jimmie, have 2 children. He serves as the director of Public Works for the city. He serves on several Boards, and has demonstrated continued support and concern for our people and our community resources.
Aaron Andrews, Vice Chair, has served on the Board for the past 5 years. Aaron lives in Carey with his wife, Wendy and their 6 children. Aaron is an active farmer and also runs an excavation business. He currently represents Blaine County as a Board Member for Wood River Resource Conservation and Development. Each winter Aaron conducts the local snow survey for the NRCS. On a snow machine, he is a happy man.
Pete Van Der Meulen, Supervisor, is a long time resident of the Wood River Valley. He and his wife Linda have 3 children. Pete graduated from Stanford University with a degree in engineering. He is the founder of Power Engineers, and is a board member of Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation and Blaine Manor. He is currently enjoying his farm/ranch work. Pete loves hunting, fishing and making things work!
Jennifer Halverson, Supervisor, is newly elected to our Board this year. She and her husband Mick, have one son and have lived in Hailey for the past 9 years. Jennifer taught 1st grade in Utah for 25 years before moving to Idaho. She has four teaching certificates including special education and a master’s degree in Early Childhood. Jennifer says, “I love Idaho and its diversity and consider it my privilege to help the Blaine Soil Conservation District.
Doug Surerus, Supervisor, manages the Carey Ranch for the Pardue Cattle Company. Doug, and his wife Nancy have 2 sons. Currently Doug is serving as Chairman on the board of the Fish Creek Canal Company. Doug enjoys his outdoor life.
Kathryn Goldman, Associate Supervisor, earned her Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Montana in Missoula and has been working to protect public and private lands in the west for 10 years. Presently, Kathryn is the Project Coordinator for the Wood River Land Trust where she works to protect the Big Wood River and other special projects. She enjoys running the rivers and skiing the many fine lines available in the local mountains. Kathryn lives in Bellevue.
Lane Durtschi, Associate Supervisor, is a High School Science Teacher at the Carey High School. He and his wife Nancy have 4 children. Lane is also coaches Football and Basketball, as well as Envirothon Teams that represent our District each year at the High School level Environmental Science Competition.
